CBD Studies and Scientific Proof

Happy, relaxed woman in the woodsCannabidiol (CBD) has long been recognized for its therapeutic benefits; in fact, use of the hemp plant for medicinal purposes goes back thousands of years. But you’re probably wondering if there’s any modern-day studies on the healing benefits of CBD to back the claims. We can tell you there are many – and as the popularity of CBD rises, we can expect to see many more in the future. If there’s one thing many researchers agree on, it’s that data so far provides a case for further research to learn more about the therapeutic potential of CBD.

CBD is recognized as a compound that can be used for a wide variety of disorders.

In their paper, “Therapeutic applications of cannabinoids,” published in Chemico-Biological Interactions (2018), researchers Nancy Mauryaa Bharath and Kumar Velmurugan write:

“In an era of rising disease threats and antibiotic resistance, cannabinoids can prove to be boon for the medical and scientific world. A large body of scientific literature is suggestive of the positive effects and medicinal utility of cannabinoids and it can be concluded on the basis of these studies that if negative implications of these compounds are restricted or modified, these can serve as potential therapeutics for a wide variety of diseases such as epilepsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma and many more.”

And a compound in CBD — endocannabinoids — may be important in overall mind and body health, according to Bradley E. Alger, Ph.D., who concluded in “Getting High on the Endocannabinoid System” published in Cerebrum (2013):

“Endocannabinoids are literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system, we begin to see a mechanism that could connect brain activity and states of physical health and disease.”

In a 2018 study, researchers found that consumers use CBD for diverse medical conditions, particularly pain, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. The researchers concluded that the data “provide a compelling rationale for further research to better understand the therapeutic potential of CBD.”
